Sometimes I find it impossible to find things to watch and I also find it hard to find recommendations that give me more than a quick two sentence synopsis. So, I think I’m going to start sharing what I’ve been watching lately, what I love or don’t love about it and maybe help you make your decision a little easier. From the jump I just want to make it clear that I’m not claiming to have exquisite taste or even good taste in shows, I’m just sharing what I’m watching these days. I’m definitely more of a reality tv girl over scripted series and movies. It’s rare that I find a series that I can get through these days as I find everything so depressing or find myself disappointed with the comedy sections I scour through and end up with something that’s just not that funny. As a girl brought up on Bravo, Laguna Beach and The Hills, my taste leans more towards reality tv but the occasional movie or series sneaks in there. I’ll advise you scroll towards the bottom if you prefer scripted tv/movies.

Love Island

Okay Love Island has been filling the void that was created the moment this latest Vanderpump Rules season was over. Now these two shows are completely incomparable but going from waiting for a weekly episode to daily episodes 6 days a week? Who has time to think about what is lacking? There’s always something to watch and if you skip a day or two, you’re able to binge which may be the best part of Love Island. Anyway, this season has been phenomenal, the islanders have really been keeping the momentum going and for what they could be lacking, the producers have been coming in overtime. Moves have been made that I’ve never seen be made before even to the point of one elimination leaving my jaw to the floor. If you’ve never watched the show, I think this is a fun season to start with.
If you’re not familiar with the show or don’t understand how a show of people coupling up in a house that they never leave aside from dates could be interesting, let me tell you why I love it. The main reason being that I love the fact that they are limited to two glasses of champagne a day, I was told that they were sober and drinking non-alcoholic champagne so I’m not sure which one it is. Either way, I love the fact that these people’s decisions are based off how they genuinely feel within this environment and not being manipulated due to over serving themselves. These people are really building connections and drinking iced coffee, smoothies and water all day, chatting and building relationships. That’s truly the main reason why I watch. At this point were about 30+ episodes in but again it’s such a fun show to binge! Stream on Hulu. rating: 9/10
The Ashley Madison Affair

Wow. Just Wow. I thought this was going to be something I turned on for 10 minutes, rolled my eyes and kept scrolling but I just finished the third and I believe final episode of this docuseries and it just blew my mind. I loosely remembered the hacking of the Ashley Madison website database in 2015 but this was a refresher course and so much more. The series is about the scandal of Ashley Madison, which is a site created to aid in procuring extramarital affairs namely with other married partners, the rise and fall of an empire fully based off of infidelity. This story involves fraud, database security breaches, leaked emails of the CEO, leaked information about the users, fem bots and so much more. This series was a wild ride once you get past the strange b-roll. 8/10 Stream on Hulu.
Real Housewives of Orange County

It’s the return of Tamra and her antics in season 17 of RHOC. I will say thus far I’ve been mildly entertained six episodes into the season but it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. I can’t stand watching the women ganging up on Shannon whom I actually enjoy. I can’t be surprised as this has never been my favorite series of the franchise. It’s had its moments with the Brooks of it all, Tres amigos take Cabo, etc but it’s feeling like those days are behind us. Again with Tamra’s desperate attempt to kick up drama while throwing people under the bus and blaming them for her behavior has been entertaining in the past and I guess now it’s better than nothing. Heather Dubrow is giving unintentional comedy with a blow up over her IMDB page.. if you’re not watching the season, I don’t really blame you. As of yet, you’re not really missing out on anything. I’m just watching because I don’t have any other series of the Housewives currently playing and it’s devastating. Stream on Peacock. rating: 5/10
Real Housewives of New Jersey (Late Watch)

I know I’m behind but since I didn’t have a current series of the franchise to watch and I missed Jersey while it was airing, I decided to catch up and I truly enjoyed this past season of RHONJ. These women are unhinged and really bringing it throughout the season, there’s always someone popping off about something. I could understand how the drama between Melissa and Teresa gets old but the Louie of it all really added some zest to a tired storyline. I was a fan of the two new housewives Danielle and Jen, seeing Dolares happy in a new stage of life has been nice to watch and the never ending feud between the Gorgas and the Teresa.. well it is what it is. After all the news about Louie has come out, I had to see for myself what this guy was all about and the show did not disappoint. If you’ve been slacking on your housewives, I think this is a good season to jump back in on! Stream on Peacock. rating: 7/10
Stars on Mars

Okay this one may seem out of left field but my initial interest was that Tom Schwartz from Vanderpump Rules joined the cast shortly after the eruption of Scandoval. After a few soundbites declaring he was no longer speaking to Sandoval came out, of course I was curious how he would be without his right hand man by his side. Low and behold I was actually upset there wasn’t a new episode last week and that has nothing to do with Tom Schwartz. I’m genuinely enjoying the show and want to know who is going win which comes as a surprise to myself.
If you’re curious about the premise, they invited a mixture of athletes, comedians, singers, actors and reality tv personalities, flew them out to Coober Pedy, Australia which resembles the surface of Mars and the participants are now apart of a simulation challenge to survive on Mars. Hosted by the one and only William Shatner, they built out a space station which they can’t leave without their space suits (helmet and all) on, driving around on space rovers and there are even robot dogs. Each week the cast is given missions that they must complete and if they fail it results in the base commander getting voted off or if they succeed then it’s down to the bottom three that are up for elimination based on their usefulness. Again, no one is as shocked by me that I enjoy this so much but if you’re looking for some mindless fun, give this a try. 6.5/10 Streaming on Hulu.
The Kardashians

Okay, I don’t want be harsh but this season of the Kardashians might as well be its last for me. As someone who has seen more than their fair share of this show, nothing tops what E! and Bunim Murray were able to do with making this family interesting and knowing what angles to focus on. I’ve never watched a slower reality tv show to where absolutely nothing is happening for a whole hour and yet they’re talking on the screen like something is happening. A four episode story arc based on sisters not speaking over a Dolce & Gabbana 90’s vault clothing pull for a wedding vs a curated line… just not very relatable let alone interesting. As much as we appreciate what they do for work, politely, they’ve been on the air for practically 20 years, we’re fully aware of what businesses they own and how many kids they have and with that I’ve just hit two out of the three main talking points of the entire show. If you fell off or just would never, I fully understand I think I’m officially done after the last clickbait of a bs storyline. 2/10 Stream on Hulu.
Scripted
Secret Invasion

I tried. I really wanted to like it as I’m a fan of Marvel and I thought a Nick Fury story would get me excited about something… and even though I don’t want to miss an easter egg for what’s to come, I can’t do it. I’m not really into the sci fi nature of it all, Captain Marvel wasn’t my favorite movie and the alien storyline just doesn’t do enough to keep me watching. I’ve officially handed this one over to my boyfriend to watch without me. With that being said, what doesn’t work for me may work for you so don’t take it personal but I’m rating this a 3.5/10. Based on a True Story

So far I’m pretty into this new comedy thriller series Based on a True Story. Although I’m only two or three episodes into the show I would consider myself a fan. Basically, Kaley Cuoco plays an expecting real estate agent, Ava, who has an obsession with true crime podcasts. She’s married to Chris Messina’s character, Nathan, who’s an ex-tennis player turned country club instructor in financial turmoil and struggling with his self-worth. Through a series of events and due to Ava’s sleuthing skills, they find themselves entangled with a serial killer and a podcast. I would say definitely worth a watch. 6/10 Stream on Peacock.
Platonic

I’m a huge fan of Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen individually and together so I’m happy to report they’ve joined forces yet again in this light-hearted comedy. Playing best friends who over time drifted apart then reconnect after Rogen’s character goes through a break up. The friendship picks up where it left off but in different stages of their lives and it’s interesting watching them navigate it. Only 4 episodes in I would give it a 6.5/10 Stream on Apple TV+
That’s what I’m currently watching when I’m not replaying old episodes of Vanderpump Rules. Hope I gave you get some ideas for what to watch later!
xx,
