I’m honestly ashamed as to how long it’s taken me to write this review but even though it’s been a few months since I dined at Mother Wolf, I can still walk you through one of my personal favorite culinary experiences I’ve had like it was yesterday. Located on Wilcox Blvd. between Sunset Blvd. and Selma Ave. Mother Wolf is occupying an expansive downstairs area of the historic Citizen News Building. Once you step foot inside, you’re instantly transported to Rome greeted with nothing short of elegance, romance and surprisingly cozy vibes. With Chef Evan Funke’s perfectly curated menu, it’s almost impossible to not want to order one of everything. The drinks are phenomenal, the service was impeccable and the company was immaculate. The drinks were flowing with so much food to enjoy and I will say, I highly recommend having a reservation beforehand, they usually book out a week in advance or you’ll find availability at odd times. I do not recommend just walking in as I don’t know what that looks like without a reservation but I will say it is very much worth it to just book a reservation in advance!
Espresso Martini

My drink of choice was an espresso martini, it’s a classic and the perfect pick me up for the top of the evening, mixed perfectly and so so tasty. I truly do believe you can never go wrong with ordering an espresso martini!
Bufala E Crudo

For a shared starter we ordered the Mozzarella di Bufala with Prosciutto for the table. Gorgeously strewn prosciutto, drizzled in olive oil, sprinkled with salt and topped with baby basil leaves. The mozzarella is already sliced, sprinkled with pepper and olive oil. I’m not the hugest fan of cheese on its own but this mozzarella was sent from above. Giving light but rich all at the same time.
Fiori Di Zucca

Next are these stuffed squash blossoms. I will go on the record saying this was my favorite dish of the night, not only is it hard to find squash blossoms on a menu but to order ones that are cooked correctly and tasty.. harder than you would think. These squash blossoms were stuffed with the perfect combination of ricotta romana and parmigiano reggiano, lightly dipped in batter and fried to golden perfection. The level of the fry and crunch could only be compared to that of a tempura in my opinion. With all the textures and flavors coming together, I can only dream about these squash blossoms until the next visit to Mother Wolf. No joke, my stomach just started growling.
Quattro Formaggi

Strong. The first word to describe the flavor for this pizza, definitely one for the ultimate cheese lover. I could only handle one slice of this for as I said previously, I’m not the hugest fan of cheese alone nor most of their flavors so this was not the top choice for me. While the pizza crust was phenomenal and passed the tip check (where it stays level with no support) next time I will go for a Diavola as we went for a vegetarian option for the table being that one of our friends is a vegetarian but from what I can remember, she absolutely loved it!
Rigatoni All’Amatriciana

This was a pasta for the table to try, a lovely rigatoni with guanciale, saldsa di pomodoro topped with a pecorino romano. Delicious, cooked to a perfect al dente, so much flavor and just an all around classic dish.
Tonnarelli Cacio E Pepe

I was legitimately obsessesd with their cacio e pepe, my friend ordered it and not only did I just try a bite at the restaurant but when I discovered she had no plans on taking the rest home with her, I absolutely swooped in on that to go box and enjoyed it the next day. I don’t know if you’re like me but I feel like a test of great food is that it’s even better the next day and if you agree with me then, this pasta passed the next day test.
Mezze Maniche Al Cinghiale

For my main pasta I ordered the wild boar ragù topped with pecorino romano and when I say every bite was heaven. It was. I’m such a pasta girl and I give this dish five stars, I absolutely did not want to share even a bite and what I couldn’t finish, you know I had them pack it up to send me home with it! Would definitely recommend this dish to my meat eaters and pasta lovers, I believe this will be my staple order at Mother Wolf.
Time For Dessert

We went for it with the dessert menu, had to give as many things as possible a try. We ended up with two cakes and two gelato flavors. The first cake was a slice of Olive Oil cake paired with a lemon sorbet and topped with winter citrus. Bottom left of the photo was my personal choice, it’s called the Maritozzo Romano, Harry’s berries strawberries folded in with a crema chantilly surrounded by the most delicious, airy pastry. Not too sweet and a perfect dessert to share. We also ordered two gelatos, one of which is not pictured above, a Pistachio which was phenomenal and a Latte e Malto which is malted milk and chocolate chip. 10/10 across the dessert board.
To say we collectively as a group had a truly wonderful experience at Mother Wolf would be right on point. I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more so, everything from the ambience to the food and everything in between, I don’t have one negative remark when it comes to this restaurant and can’t wait to try other dishes on the menu upon returning. Recommendations are always welcomed!
Buonasera!
